While many of us have been prepped on the 4 Cs of diamonds, we've been left in the dark about the importance of the cut.  For the previous six years Hadar has been specializing in ideal cut round simulated diamonds…also known in the trade as Hearts & Arrows.

The Ideal Cut is a mathematical formula for cutting diamonds to precise angles and proportions in order to gain the optimum brilliance and fire. W hen a diamond is Ideal Cut , light rays from all sides are bent towards the center of the stone and are reflected back through the top in a blaze of light. This creates a “Hearts and Arrows” effect (hearts form the bottom and arrows from the top). For the previous 5 ½ years Hadar has been delivering hand cut ideal simulated diamonds to people all over the world.

Forerunners of the modern round brilliant Ideal Cut, such as the European or Old Mine cut*, varied in appearance from stone to stone as there was no single set standard. However, in 1919, Marcel Tolkowsky , a mathematician and Belgian diamond cutter, wrote the treatise “Diamond Design” detailing the first recorded proportions for round brilliant cut diamonds, which was the basis of what is known today as the Ideal Cut. In addition to Tolkowsky's ideal proportions round Russian Brilliants® also have Hearts and Arrows. Using an H&A viewer one can see an arrow pattern in the stone from the top and 8 hearts from the bottom of the stone.

He surveyed a random sampling of people for their preferences, including other diamond cutters in his family, and systematically analyzed the optics of a diamond. Applying math and physics, he calculated the exact specifications for cutting round brilliant diamonds that would produce the most beautiful stone. With minor changes, today's standards for Ideal Cut stones with the ideal balance of brilliance and dispersion of light are based on Tolkowsky's work.

The stones are available loose or set in 14k, 18k, 22k or platinum rings, earrings, pendants and tennis bracelets.
